Auburn at Alabama

Under 153.5 (-110)

We have a classic SEC rivalry matchup between the Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide, and while Alabama is expected to win by a healthy margin as 9.5-point favorites, the over/under could be of interest to us tonight.

These are two of the best defenses in the country, with the Crimson Tide ranking 5th in adjusted defensive efficiency and the Tigers following closely behind at 16th, per BartTorvik. More specifically, these teams really make things difficult for opposing shooters, as both are top-10 in effective field goal percentage defense.

That might not be enough to completely stop Alabama, who ranks 13th in adjusted offense, from getting the victory, but it could keep the overall total from getting too high. Auburn also plays at a middling pace, ranking 151st in adjusted tempo, which will slow things down for a Crimson Tide team that likes to play at a blazing clip.

When these two teams faced off last month at Auburn, the two teams combined for 146 points, comfortably coming in under tonight's total. Our model is also in love with the under, giving it a 64.4% chance of hitting.

Presbyterian at Campbell

Campbell -5.5 (-120)
Over 126.5 (-105)

The Big South tournament gets underway tonight, and while this first-round matchup isn't exactly appointment viewing, there might be some betting value within it.

There's little question that the Presbyterian Blue Hose are one of the weakest squads in the nation, ranking 341st on BartTorvik and 349th in KenPom out of 363 teams. Unsurprisingly, that's reflected by their abysmal record, winning just five games all season and going 1-17 in conference play.

The Campbell Fighting Camels aren't exactly world-beaters themselves as a sub-.500 team, but as a team ranked well within the top 250 on both sites, they're a tier or two above the Blue Hose. Their biggest advantage comes on offense, where Campbell is 212th in adjusted offensive efficiency, per BartTorvik, compared to a woeful 347th for Presbyterian. Specifically, the Fighting Camels shoot the ball well, sitting a respectable 85th in effective field goal percentage.

Campbell fell to Presbyterian on the road in December, but in the time since, the Blue Hose have lost an astounding 17 straight games, and the Fighting Camels got their revenge just a couple of weeks back with a 17-point home win. It's hard to see Presbyterian suddenly turning things around after going two months without a win, and we should like Campbell's chances of winning and covering.

Both teams play at a snail's pace, so it isn't surprising to see such a low over/under tonight. However, they exceeded 126.5 in their prior two matchups (154 and 131 points), so we can consider taking the over, as well. Despite the lack of tempo, Campbell and Presbyterian sit outside the top 250 in adjusted defense -- leading to more points -- and both offenses are actually quite effective at reaching the charity strip, ranking 35th and 51st in free throw rate, respectively.
