College Football Daily Fantasy Helper: Friday 10/7/22

College football is back, and FanDuel's college football DFS main slate on Friday includes four games.

In case you're unfamiliar with how it works, you can check out the rules and scoring on FanDuel, where you can hit the lobby each week to see the full array of slates and contests being offered.

As for the basics, your roster consists of a quarterback slot, two running backs, three wide receivers (which also includes tight ends), and one "Super FLEX". In the Super FLEX spot, you can insert one player from any position, including quarterbacks.

Here, our goal is to help you field a roster full of fantasy goodness, and in true numberFire fashion, we'll use our DFS projections, game projections, and market share report to tackle as many slates as possible in the lead-up to the College Football Playoff. In this piece, we are breaking down Friday's main slate, which locks at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Let's look at which players are in great spots as well as identify some players with low salaries who will allow you to roster the high-salary players. All stats come from PFF unless otherwise noted.

Quarterbacks

Chevan Cordeiro, San Jose State ($10,000) – Cordeiro is in a plus spot on Friday night. The San Jose State Spartans opponent, Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels, has struggled against the pass. They are allowing 252.8 passing yards per game, which ranks 97th nationally. Additionally, they have allowed eight touchdown passes this season. The San Jose State signal caller also provides dual-threat upside. Through four games, Cordeiro has tallied 180 rushing yards and four touchdowns as a runner.

Seth Henigan, Memphis ($9,600) – Henigan is another quarterback that can succeed in both the passing and running game. The sophomore has recorded nine touchdown passes through five games. Also, he has posted 214 rushing yards and two touchdowns via the ground. The matchup with the Houston Cougars is phenomenal. The Cougars have been throttled by opposing signal callers. They have allowed a slate-high 12 touchdown passes through five games. They’re allowing 273.6 passing yards per game (114th nationally).

Nate Cox, Nevada ($7,100) - A dual-threat quarterback against Colorado State? Yes, please. Cox has a dream matchup against the Rams on Friday night. The Rams have struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball this season. They rank 102nd nationally in total defense. Colorado State is allowing an eye-opening 414.2 yards per game to opposing offenses. They have yielded 18 total touchdowns to opposing offenses through five games.

Others to Consider: Doug Brumfield ($10,200), Casey Thompson ($9,000), Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi ($6,200 - if Clay Millen is out)

Running Backs

Anthony Grant, Nebraska ($9,400) – Grant is a workhorse for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The junior is averaging 22.8 carries per game this season. He has eclipsed 100-plus rushing yards in four out of five games. I like his chances of finding success against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Rutgers has allowed six rushing touchdowns in two games against Big Ten competition.

Toa Taua, Nevada ($8,600) – Taua is a solid play due to his role within the Nevada Wolf Pack’s offense. He leads Nevada with 351 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The versatile running back has been targeted 17 times through five games. He has 14 receptions, 105 receiving yards, and a touchdown as a pass catcher. We could see a ceiling game this week against Colorado State considering the Rams have surrendered 18 total touchdowns through four games to opposing offenses.

Avery Morrow, Colorado State ($5,300) – The third-string running back may ascend to RB1 on Thursday night. Starting running back A'Jon Vivens ($5,700) is reportedly nursing an injury. He could play on Thursday night and would be a solid play if he does suit up. David Bailey, who was splitting the workload with Vivens, entered the transfer portal this week. This is a plus spot for the Rams' running game; Nevada is allowing 178 rushing yards per game to enemy ball carriers (104th nationally).

Others to Consider: Aidan Robbins ($10,000), Kairee Robinson ($8,400), Brandon Campbell ($8,200), Brandon Thomas ($7,600)

Wide Receivers

Nathaniel Dell, Houston ($9,400) – Dell has been the lone bright spot in the Houston Cougars' sputtering offense. The emerging star easily leads Houston in all relevant pass-catching statistics. Dell has 32 receptions, 454 receiving yards, and five touchdowns on 43 targets through five games. He should feast against the Memphis pass defense. The Tigers are allowing 288.0 passing yards per game (123rd nationally). They have surrendered 11 touchdown passes through five games.

If spending up at wide receiver, I prefer Dell to Tory Horton ($9,800). Colorado State will likely be breaking in a new quarterback.

Trey Palmer, Nebraska ($8,800) - Palmer is having a massive season for the Cornhuskers. He is commanding a 30.6% target share. The junior has 36 receptions through five games. A lot of his targets are coming down the field, too; he's posting an aDOT of 12.8.

BJ Casteel, Nevada ($6,000) - Casteel leads the Wolfpack in routes ran (136) and he's being targeted down the field (17.1 aDOT). I think he's worth a look against the Rams' awful pass defense. Casteel has been targeted 23 times through five games (second amongst the Nevada pass catchers). He will fly under the radar as an interesting GPP play.

Joe Scates, Memphis ($6,000) - Scates won’t be popular. However, I think he is viable this week. The junior has a spicy 30.7 aDOT. His role might be increasing after transferring from Iowa State Cyclones in the offseason. The junior ran 26 pass routes in Memphis’ last game, which was a season-high.

Justin Lockhart, San Jose State ($5,800) - Lockhart will be the popular value play at wide receiver. He ranks second amongst the Spartans in targets (24) and averages 18.3 yards per reception. He is also running nearly the same amount of pass routes as Elijah Cooks (147 to 154, respectively). Lockhart offers a significant salary discount off Cooks.

Others to Consider: Elijah Cooks ($8,500), Ricky White ($7,700), Charles Ross ($7,700), Jamaal Bell ($7,000), Javon Ivory ($6,600), Marcus Washington ($5,700), Senika McKie ($5,600), Johnny Langen ($5,500)
