College Football Daily Fantasy Helper: Friday 11/18/22

College football is entering Week 12, and FanDuel's college football DFS main slate on Friday includes two games.

In case you're unfamiliar with how it works, you can check out the rules and scoring on FanDuel, where you can hit the lobby each week to see the full array of slates and contests being offered.

As for the basics, your roster consists of a quarterback slot, two running backs, three wide receivers (which also includes tight ends), and one "Super FLEX". In the Super FLEX spot, you can insert one player from any position, including quarterbacks.

Here, our goal is to help you field a roster full of fantasy goodness, and in true numberFire fashion, we'll use our DFS projections and game projections to tackle as many slates as possible in the lead-up to the College Football Playoff. In this piece, we are breaking down Friday's main slate, which locks at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Let's look at which players are in great spots as well as identify some value plays who will allow you to roster the high-salary options. All stats come from PFF unless otherwise noted.

Quarterbacks

Jalen Mayden, San Diego State ($10,000) – The junior is settling into his starting role for the San Diego State Aztecs. Mayden has tossed seven touchdown passes over the last three games. Additionally, he is a threat to run the ball. Mayden has recorded 171 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in five games of action.

Braylon Braxton, Tulsa ($9,200) – The Tulsa Golden Hurricane quarterback situation is something to pay attention to prior to lock. Davis Brin returned last week but was benched in favor of Braxton due to ineffectiveness. Despite that, Brin will see at least some action if he’s healthy enough to suit up. I think whoever draws the start is a decent play on Friday night. Braxton is more appealing due to his dual-threat ability. The matchup with South Florida is a dream spot. The Bulls are allowing 288.0 passing yards per game (124th nationally), and they’ve surrendered 21 passing touchdowns through 10 games.

Byrum Brown, South Florida ($7,200) - The Bulls will turn to Brown with Katravis Marsh sidelined. Byrum is a freshman and has rarely played this season. He is listed as a pro-style quarterback. The matchup with Tulsa is solid, as the Golden Hurricanes are allowing 396.6 total yards per game to opposing offenses (90th nationally). Tulsa’s defense has allowed 34 touchdowns through 10 games.

Running Backs

Deneric Prince, Tulsa ($8,400) – Prince struggled in a fantastic matchup against Memphis last week. However, I don’t expect him to struggle for a second straight week. South Florida is getting trampled by opposing ball carriers this season. The Bulls are allowing 5.99 yards per carry, and they’ve yielded 23 rushing touchdowns through 10 games. With the Tulsa quarterback situation in flux, I’d expect Tulsa to establish the run against South Florida. Prince’s backfield mate, Jordan Ford, is also viable. Prince out-snapped Ford 40-to-21 in last week’s game.

Brian Battie, South Florida ($7,500) – Battie has been productive despite South Florida’s 1-9 record. He is averaging 19.0 carries per game over the last three games. The sophomore has cleared 105 rushing yards in each of those three games.

Jaylon Armstead, San Diego State ($5,900) - Armstead looks like the Aztec running back to target in this crowded backfield. The sophomore has 29 carries over the last two games. He is in a fantastic spot on Friday night. New Mexico is allowing 163.7 rushing yards per game to opposing ball carriers. The Lobos have allowed 17 rushing touchdowns through 10 games.

Wide Receivers

Keylon Stokes, Tulsa ($9,500) – Stokes has been one of the most productive pass catchers in FBS. The senior has recorded 100-plus receiving yards in 6 out of 10 games. He could break the slate against South Florida’s awful defense.

Xavier Weaver, South Florida ($8,500) - Weaver’s target share jumps off the charts (35.4%). He is the clear alpha in South Florida’s passing game. The junior has six touchdown receptions over the last five games. He is averaging a slate-leading 2.97 yards per route run.

Tyrell Shavers, San Diego State ($6,800) - We may not need the salary relief on this slate. However, Shavers will be a contrarian option. The speedster leads San Diego State with an average of 1.82 yards per route run. He has drawn four targets in each of the last three games.

General Notes

Jimmie Horn Jr ($7,600) is another player who will fly under the radar at wide receiver. Horn Jr. is averaging 2.23 yards per route run, and he is posting an aDOT of 12.3. The Bulls pass catcher led his team with 29 routes run in last week’s game.

Juan Carlos Santana ($7,900) and Isaiah Epps ($6,200) are solid options in Tulsa’s passing game. Santana has drawn 75 targets through 10 games. Meanwhile, Epps tied Keylon Stokes with 40 routes run in last week’s game. Both players are better options if Davis Brin suits up. Tulsa’s wide receivers will be popular options.

Jessie Matthews ($7,100) has drawn six targets in each of the last three games. He leads San Diego State with 53 targets this season.

Geordon Porter ($5,700) is my favorite option in New Mexico’s lackluster passing game. The former Sun Devils pass catcher is averaging an impressive 2.5 yards per route run. He is also posting an aDOT of 11.8. Porter will be very contrarian on Friday night.
