One of the components of the human condition is to be affected most by that which happens most recently. Recency bias is a very real thing.

Sure, everyone has a bad day from time to time, and those can be more easily contextualized when they appear as isolated incidents. But what if you had a coworker who, normally chipper and productive at 9:00 a.m., started showing up to work around noon, looking disheveled and unkempt, and who did nothing when he actually got to the office?

You'd probably be concerned for his or her wellbeing, but, let's face it, your opinion on them would probably change for the worse, and your brain would quickly block out all the positive attributes this individual was bringing to the job just a few months ago.
