Fantasy Football: 5 Quarterbacks With Major Touchdown Upside

Under head coach Mike McCoy and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, the San Diego Chargers ranked fifth in the league with a 1.81 pass-run ratio, a number that jumped to 1.86 (also good for fifth in the league) in the red zone while they also ranked eighth in pass-run ratio on the goal line.

This was no anomaly for either coach, and in 2014, the Chargers ranked 11th in red zone pass-run ratio while Whisenhunt's Titans ranked 8th, and the Chargers' rank jumped to 2nd on the goal line while the Titans jumped to 5th.

Philip Rivers has been a fairly efficient red zone passer, and among the 28 quarterbacks with 100-plus attempts in the red zone over the past three years, he ranks ninth in touchdown rate.

He will have at his disposal one of the league's best red zone weapons in Antonio Gates, whose 36.2% touchdown rate ranks 12th among 111 players with 20-plus red zone targets over the past three seasons. Danny Woodhead has also quietly been a strong red zone threat out of the backfield with a 26.2% touchdown rate.

Rivers has proven himself to be an efficient red zone passer, and his coaches have proven that they like to throw the ball near the end zone. The Chargers still have their best red zone threats on the team, and there's no reason to believe that Rivers won't be able to continue finding success in scoring range, giving him the potential to post a big touchdown number this season.
