After years of serving as the primary blocking tight end for the Denver Broncos, Virgil Green may be getting his chance to shine. And despite only putting up a 4-catch, 28-yard outing on opening night, things are looking up for the fifth-year tight end.
First things first, Green is an athletic freak. His 100th-percentile burst score and 96th-percentile catch radius make you wonder why Owen Daniels was the Broncos' anointed replacement for Julius Thomas during the 2015 season.
Green also showed some rapport with new Broncos' quarterback Trevor Siemian in Week 1, garnering five targets, converting a big third-down play into a first down, and earning a red zone target, which -- had it not been batted down -- would've landed into Green’s wide open arms for a touchdown.
Green's opportunity could be on the upswing too. Star wideout Demaryius Thomas has a hip injury that could make him miss some time. Green figures to be the beneficiary of at least a small portion of Thomas' target load should he actually be required to miss games.
Green is the kind of high upside stash that could pay dividends in the near future if he can translate his raw athleticism into in-game production, and it appears he finally has the opportunity to do so. Roster him if you're shaky to at tight end to see if he can break out.
