Start Marcus Mariota as a Favorite

Earlier this year, I wrote an article about how quarterbacks performed as favorites opposed to underdogs and found the favored quarterback scored an average of 19.19 standard fantasy points per contests, while underdogs scored an average of 17.90, a difference of about 1.29 points.

The Tennessee Titans are currently favored by 1.5 points over the Oakland Raiders.

In the previously mentioned article, it was noted that Marcus Mariota had the best favorite/underdog splits, but he was favored in only three game. Going off of that small sample size, in three games as a favorite, Mariota averaged 26.78 standard points per game according to the Rotoviz Game Splits App.

We will take the gamble on Mariota's small sample as a favorite because he is facing Oakland, the worst defense in the league through two weeks according to our metrics. The Oakland D/ST has allowed 31.42 FanDuel points to Drew Brees in Week 1 and 28.84 FanDuel points to Matt Ryan in Week 2.

Mariota is priced at $7,700 on FanDuel, which ranks 13th among all quarterbacks. In a week where studs like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are expected to score big in games with high totals, Mariota is lined up to be a sneaky tournament play.
