5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 7
Brock Osweiler’s -0.06 Passing NEP per Drop Back Is the Worst Mark in the League
After a 131-yard, scoreless performance against the Denver Broncos, his former team, on Monday night, Osweiler now holds the title as the least efficient passer in the league.
Of all the quarterbacks who have appeared in each of their team’s games this season, none have a lower Passing NEP per drop back than Brock Osweiler. Considering how bad Case Keenum has been – averaging 244 passing yards, 1.14 touchdowns and 1.43 interceptions per game – Osweiler had to really disappoint to claim the basement spot.
Among all quarterbacks with 250 or more attempts last season, Nick Foles was the only one to finish the season with a passing NEP worse than Osweiler’s current value.
Averaging only 219 passing yards per game, Osweiler’s poor play has had a significant impact on DeAndre Hopkins’ value. After finishing last season with the 6th-most standard fantasy points among wide receivers, Hopkins currently ranks 32nd in fantasy points per game at his position through seven games this year.
Osweiler has an excellent opportunity to right the ship in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions, who rank 31st in Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP. If he can’t do that, the Houston Texans will have to at least consider benching him, which our own Dan Pizzuta dove into earlier this week.
