5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 8
The Minnesota Vikings -0.14 Adjusted Rushing NEP Per Carry Ranks 32nd
The Minnesota Vikings currently have the least efficient rushing attack in the league, and they are losing 0.14 expected points each time they attempt to run the ball. It hasn't mattered who is running the ball for the Vikings, as all three of their running backs have struggled.
Just look at how their top three running backs compare to all other running backs with 25 or more carries this season.
Player | Carries | Rushing NEP/P | Rank |
---|---|---|---|
Matt Asiata | 62 | -0.11 | 53rd |
Jerick McKinnon | 68 | -0.14 | 58th |
Adrian Peterson | 31 | -0.29 | 66th |
All three running backs have averaged under four yards per carry this season. The offensive line may be the root of the issue since all three backs have struggled. Plus, McKinnon rated well last season, checking in 3rd in Rushing NEP per carry among backs with at least 50 attempts.
New offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur will have his hands full trying to get this rushing offense back on track, but they have a nice matchup in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions, who rank 26th in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per carry.
