Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 11
Chad Greenway, Weak-Side Linebacker
Speaking of aging linebackers, many expected Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway to be phased out of the defense this year in favor of youth like Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr. With Kendricks ailing due to a concussion and now a hip problem recently, however, Greenway has had to step back into the starting lineup.
If we look at players with a slightly lower snap count per game (25 instead of 30), Greenway appears and ranks 78th in tackle rate among the 139 linebackers who qualify. A 10 percent tackle rate isn’t a lot, especially when one isn’t contributing big plays, but considering that he’s playing 90 percent of the team’s snaps with Kendricks out, that’s enough to be a low-upside fantasy option for Week 11.
This is especially true when we consider the Arizona Cardinals as his opponent this week. Running back David Johnson has averaged just under 30 touches per game over the past month of play, and Greenway should see most of his time covering Johnson or attacking the run for Johnson this week. That will provide him a strong base of tackle opportunity.
Greenway is available in 98.8% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 5.86 tackles, 0.03 sacks, 0.08 passes defended, and a total score of 6.67 fantasy points in Week 11.
