Assessing the Biggest Weakness of Each 2016 NFL Playoff Team

Oakland Raiders: Quarterback

This was absolutely not a weakness until Derek Carr broke his leg in Week 16. The Oakland Raiders finished as the eighth-best passing offense in all of football even with Carr being hurt down the stretch. Now, though, Connor Cook will get the reins with Matthew McGloin also injured, and things could get messy.

Our sample on Cook in the NFL isn't robust, but it sure is ugly. He had 23 drop backs against the Denver Broncos, and managed to finish with -10.12 Passing NEP. Granted, this was against what was easily the league's best pass defense, but this week, they'll face the sixth-ranked unit in the Houston Texans.

These deep levels of treachery are hard to swallow when you remember how good Carr was earlier in the year.

Cook was a fourth-round pick for a reason. His collegiate efficiency numbers were largely unsatisfactory, making him well suited for the role of a third-string quarterback. You'd ideally be able to stash him for a few years before tossing him into the fire, but that's not an option the Raiders possess, and it may wind up costing them what could have been a magical season.
