New York Giants
Top Needs: QB, RB, TE, IOL
The New York Giants appear to be on the precipice of a big-time rebuild. Quarterback Eli Manning was flat-out bad this year -- the Giants finished 26th in passing efficiency by our metrics -- and he’s not going to get much better in the waning years of his career. A strong tight end presence can prolong his success too; the Giants’ tight ends had the third-worst Reception NEP per target in 2016.
The Giants made a smart move by cutting Rashad Jennings, but Paul Perkins had a mediocre-at-best debut in 2016; they ranked eighth-worst by Total NEP per play as a group. Getting more line protection will help: the linemen ranked fifth-lowest in Rushing Success Rate this year.
The Giants’ defense is lucky they ranked fifth and third in Adjusted Defensive Passing and Rushing NEP per play, because the linebacker play was so bad. Strong-side linebacker Devon Kennard was the only above-average ‘backer for the G-Men -- depth is needed sorely.
