2017 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting What Could Happen in the First Round
20. Broncos: Forrest Lamp, Offensive Guard
Top Needs: TE, IOL, OT, DE, DT
The Denver Broncos spent their first round pick last year on who they hope will be their franchise passer for years to come. Now they need to protect him after allowing the 18th-most Sack NEP last year. Offensive lineman Forrest Lamp of Western Kentucky is where they start.
At 6’4” and 305 pounds, Lamp is versatile in his size to move between offensive tackle, guard, and center. He gets leverage on his assignments well, has quick feet with great technique, and is a prototypical fit for zone blocking run schemes. He played four years as a left tackle, but his shorter arms mean he’ll spend most of his time on the interior.
On 417 WKU passing attempts last year, Lamp gave up just four pressures on his quarterback, according to PFF. He also annihilated LSU’s Arden Key and the entire Alabama defense this year, proving his legitimate NFL chops.
