2017 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting What Could Happen in the First Round
25. Texans: Garrett Bolles, Offensive Tackle
Top Needs: QB, IOL, OT, DT
The Houston Texans will want a decent offensive line to keep their franchise passer alive when they acquire one (sorry, David Carr), not to mention pave the way for the run game; the Texans’ line ranked eighth-worst in Rushing Success Rate, to go with a middling Sack NEP allowed (16th) this year.
Offensive tackle Garrett Bolles out of Utah is a great fit for what they want to do.
One issue with Bolles is his age, as he’ll be 25 by the start of training camp, but the Texans just need above-average bodies on their line. Bolles is possibly the most athletic tackle in this class, with excellent footwork and extremely smooth, precise movements. He lacks punch and power against stronger defensive linemen, but can add more weight without losing his quickness and finesse.
Bolles played 961 snaps for the Utes in 2016. He played left tackle extremely well for one year in the FBS, but might be even better as a right tackle in Houston’s zone run scheme.
