Three years into his NFL career, Marshall found himself in the thick of the great 1980's Bears teams. After going 15-1 and winning the Super Bowl in 1985, the defense continued its dominance in 1986 thanks in part to Marshall's efforts.

In 15 starts and 16 games, the right side linebacker tallied five picks, four forced fumbles and three recoveries. On his way to being named First Team All-Pro, the two-time Super Bowl champion contributed two total touchdowns as a part of the NFL's best scoring defense (11.7 points allowed per game).
