Fantasy Football: The Downside for Each Top-20 Pick
Jay Ajayi, RB, Miami Dolphins
Downside: Offensive Line Woes
There are actually two things that worry me with Jay Ajayi, the first being negative game scripts. Miami ended up running the fewest plays last season in football, and they were the third-most run-heavy team in the league after Ajayi's big breakout game in Week 5. They lost just two games after that point in time, but in those contests, Ajayi carried the ball 28 times for 120 yards and zero scores. Certainly not bad usage, but the volume was a season low post-breakout. So if Miami's bad -- and our algorithm has them as a bottom-10 team entering the season -- then Ajayi may suffer a bit.
The other concern is the offensive line. There's no more Brandon Albert, as the team traded him away in order to move Laremy Tunsil to his natural left tackle position. And as it stands, with the team being cautious with center Mike Pouncey, the only truly healthy pieces on the line are Tunsil and right guard Jermon Bushrod, who graded as a lower-tiered lineman last year according to Pro Football Focus.
That's not good for Ajayi's potential this year.
