Fantasy Football: One Deep Sleeper Candidate From Every NFL Team

The New Orleans Saints are another team I am staying away from in terms of investing in deep sleepers, as they already go three deep at running back, have a Hall of Fame quarterback, and I don’t feel like going down the Josh Hill rabbit hole again. I think we’ve already seen where that leads.

But if there’s one player I'm keeping an eye on in this receiving group, it's Tommylee Lewis, a diminutive wide receiver who has the ability to make plays down the field, and perhaps has more reliable hands than Ted Ginn Jr., who was signed to be the big play threat alongside Michael Thomas and Willie Snead.

With Drew Brees seemingly a lock to throw for 5,000 yards, any player who could have a role in this offense is a viable fantasy asset. Currently, that Brandin Cooks/Kenny Stills role is available, and if Ginn literally drops the ball, Lewis could certainly be the beneficiary, although Gunn will likely get every chance to be the guy.

As a refresher, Devery Henderson's career high in targets was 83 in 2009, but he was typically at around just 55 a season. Stills emerged in 2014 with an 83-target season. And Cooks, by far the most well rounded and talented receiver to fill this role, had 129 targets in 2015 and 117 in 2016.

These are the numbers that have caused many to predict Ginn as a sleeper pick, especially in best-ball formats where you can maximize the investment relative to his weekly volatility. But if Ginn somehow fails to capture the available targets following the trade of Cooks, keep an eye on Lewis.
