3 Daily Fantasy Football Players to Avoid in Week 1
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Oakland Raiders
FanDuel Price: $6,900
DraftKings Price: $5,300
The Oakland Raiders may be road underdogs, but they're involved in a game with the second-highest point total (50.5), and the Tennessee Titans are only 2.5-point favorites. This is a game that should stay competitive throughout, with all sorts of scoring potential on both sides.
This could mean some goal-line opportunities for new Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, but it's still hard to get excited about him in Week 1. While he's expected to get the bulk of the scoring opportunities in Oakland's backfield, his overall volume is a huge concern entering the season. There were murmurs during the offseason that Lynch might not reach 200 carries in 2017, essentially making him a one-for-one swap for Latavius Murray, who logged 195 carries last year. That isn't terrible by today's NFL standards, but with a likely limited role in the passing game, and two capable backups in DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard sharing touches, there's a lot of uncertainty in this backfield.
Then there's the most important question of all -- is Lynch even good anymore? He last played an NFL game in 2015, where he had a below average -0.06 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt, and he's now 31 years old following a year away from professional football.
Is it possible that Lynch finds his way into the end zone three times in a shared backfield like Mike Gillislee did on Thursday night? Sure, that's entirely in his range of outcomes, but we could also just as easily see a total dud in a dreaded three-headed committee. We simply just don't know yet, and until we get some real game action to dissect, this is a situation to avoid.
