The oft-injured Danny Woodhead is another running back who went down on Sunday, suffering a hamstring injury (an ailment that caused him to miss time this offseason, too), and Javorius Allen ended up playing a big role in a blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals, carrying the ball 21 times -- the fourth-highest total in the league through Sunday's games.
He wasn't quite as efficient as starter Terrance West was, but West finished below the league average in both Rushing NEP per carry (-0.04, compared to a -0.02 league-average), and Rushing Success Rate (36.8% versus a 40.3% average), so West is no lock to hold onto the lead role in Baltimore. (Rushing Success Rate is the percentage of a player's carries that positively impacted NEP.)
There isn't always going to be as much rushing volume to go around for the Ravens as there was this week, when their sizable lead led to a run-heavy attack, but the injury to Woodhead and big workload that Allen saw give him some interesting value in the near-term. And the possibility to earn more work competing with the generally unimpressive West gives Allen plenty of upside.
