The Carolina Panthers' pass catchers left Week 2 banged up. 2016's leading receiver, tight end Greg Olsen, broke his foot and is gone for at least eight weeks. Starting receiver Kelvin Benjamin took a nasty hit and came out nursing knee and rib injuries. All the carnage against the Buffalo Bills led to extra looks and snaps for Devin Funchess.
The 6'5" wideout saw 6 targets and 57 snaps in Week 2, a substantial increase over the 2 targets and 45 snaps he saw in Week 1. He turned that opportunity into 4 catches for 68 yards, his biggest yardage total since Week 16 of 2015.
Entering Week 3, Funchess should continue to see an increased workload, and a matchup with the New Orleans Saints is about as tasty as it can get for a wide receiver. The Saints' passing defense has allowed a league-worst 388.5 passing yards per game. The New England Patriots had four different receivers gain at least 68 yards against the Saints last week, leaving the door open for another big week for Funchess.
