Elijah McGuire, RB, New York Jets
NFL.com Start Percentage: 0%
Week 4 Fantasy Points: 19.1
Based on the number of teams that own him (0.1%), let alone started him (nada), we can safely say that, quite literally, nobody saw that coming.
In Week 4, Elijah McGuire turned 10 carries into 93 yards and a touchdown. Oh, and he added 38 more yards receiving, just for good measure. McGuire has gradually earned more looks as the season has progressed. In Week 1, he had zero opportunities. In Week 2, he notched eight (six rushes, two targets). He plateaued in Week 3 (seven opportunities) before nabbing 12 last week.
Everybody loves a good breakout story, and as a late-round pick on a bad team, McGuire fits the bill. But those are exactly the reasons to remain cautious, as McGuire's big game came in a week when Matt Forte sat out. It's fair to expect McGuire to earn more playing time as the season progresses -- especially if Forte is dinged up -- but for now, this looks like a messy three-way committee.
