4 FanDuel Defenses to Target in Week 5
Detroit Lions
FanDuel Price: $4,700
numberFire Projection: 9.56 FanDuel points
Cam Newton sure looked like his old self in Week 4 against the New England Patriots, throwing for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. But so far this season, every offense has looked like a world beater against a Patriots defense that has surrendered the 2nd-most points per game (32) and ranks as the 3rd-worst unit per numberFire metrics.
Newton and the Panthers travel to Detroit where they'll take on a Lions defense that has never finished outside the top-7 in weekly scoring.
The Lions' production has been successful due to a defensive score in three out of four games, plus they rank second in interceptions (7) and fumble recoveries (4), two areas critical for fantasy points.
As mentioned earlier, the Panthers looked great in Week 4, but in the three weeks prior, two of the three teams to face Carolina finished the week as a top-7 fantasy option on FanDuel. Overall, the Panthers are allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. Newton has also struggled with turnovers early this season throwing 5 picks (3rd most in the league).
Vegas has Detroit as a 3-point favorite in this game with a 43.5 point over/under, the 2nd-lowest on the week. Although Newton and the Panthers showed explosiveness in Week 4, the Lions pose a far tougher test than the Patriots.
