7 NFL FanDuel Value Plays for Wild Card Weekend
Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Price: $7,800
Quarterback pricing is pretty tight this week, with the top six quarterbacks all within $1,000 from top to bottom. Alex Smith is the fourth most expensive quarterback on the slate, and although he may end up being the chalk because of his price, he's a good value play compared to some of the even lower-priced quarterbacks.
Smith is just $200 more than Blake Bortles ($7,600) and $300 more than Matt Ryan ($7,500), yet has a higher ceiling than both of these players in the best matchup of the three, against the Tennessee Titans. The Titans ended the season as the sixth-worst pass defense, per numberFire metrics, and three of the past five quarterbacks to face the Titans have thrown for more than 300 yards -- Tom Savage, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Jared Goff.
Smith started the season hot before having some disappointing games in the middle of the year, but he rebounded down the stretch. In his final four games, Weeks 13-16, Smith was a top-12 fantasy quarterback in three of those weeks, including the QB1 performance in Week 13. Against the Titans, Smith is a safe quarterback play with a decent price and the upside to finish as the QB1 on the week.
