2017 NFL Awards: Our Writers See Tom Brady as MVP
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Marshon Lattimore (17)
Runner-up: Tre'Davious White (3)
The Saints take away both rookie of the year awards with cornerback Marshon Lattimore getting a bigger majority win than Kamara.
Lattimore took over as the top corner in New Orleans and finished tied for fifth in interceptions (five) and tied for sixth in passed defended (18) despite playing just 13 games. New Orleans had the eighth-best defense against the pass, per our models, a huge turnaround from last season's 30th-ranked defense.
By cornerback charting metrics from Sports Info Solutions, Tre’Davious White had a slightly better season for the Buffalo Bills. Among 81 cornerbacks with at least 50 targets, White finished 51st in yards allowed per pass (7.3) but 20th in Success Rate (60 percent). Lattimore was 49th in yards allowed per pass (7.3) and 53rd in Success Rate (53 percent).
However, Lattimore did have a higher degree of difficulty in the NFC South against the likes of Julio Jones and Mike Evans than White did in the AFC East.
