Fantasy Football: One Potential Cut Candidate for Every NFC Team
Los Angeles Rams - Tavon Austin
Cap Savings: $3,000,000
Dead Money: $5,000,000
The contract the Los Angeles Rams gave Tavon Austin was one of the worst contracts in recent memory. It was absolutely no surprise that he failed to live up to it. Incoming coach Sean McVay quickly realised that the best way to get the best out of the Rams' offense was to marginalise Austin. As a result, the former first-rounder saw just 22 targets on the season, which he turned into 13 receptions for 47 scoreless yards.
Even with so little work, Austin couldn't avoid his famously horrid inefficiency. He managed an astonishing -0.33 Target NEP per Target. It cost the Rams nearly a third of an expected point every time they targeted him -- let that sink in for a minute.
The Rams are fairly comfortable in terms of cap space, and they can easily absorb the $5 million dead money hit releasing Austin would incur. That should still leave them with plenty of space to lock down Aaron Donald to a long-term pact.
