The 5 Most Efficient Red-Zone Quarterbacks in 2017
Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
Passing NEP Per Drop Back – 0.41
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the least pass-happy team in the NFL last season, with a pass-to-run ratio of just 1.05. This led to Blake Bortles coming in around the midpoint in terms of pass attempts inside the red zone (60). But, despite strong anti-Bortles narratives, he was far from a liability last season.
Bortles ranked sixth in both red-zone touchdowns (18) and touchdown rate (30%) in 2017, and he was sacked just twice in the red area. Most importantly, he did not throw a single interception inside the 20. At times, he showed himself to be an efficient, reliable asset at the quarterback spot. He was certainly worth the 18th-highest salary for his position for the upcoming season.
