Where's the Pass Rushers?
This has been a draft light on edge rushers so far, with only North Carolina State's Bradley Chubb and Texas-San Antonio's Marcus Davenport being deemed worthy of a first-round selection.
Ohio State's Sam Hubbard and USC's Rasheem Green had been bandied about as early-round possibilities, and in recent days Boston College's Harold Landry seemed to have secured his place as a first-round lock. However, all wait to hear their names called with a team on the clock.
There is a very good chance they will on Friday.
Over the last five draft classes, there have been, on average, 5.2 edge rushers drafted in the first round alone. Due to the premium the NFL places on players who can rush the passer, it would be a major surprise if there wasn’t an early run on the position in the second round of the draft.
After ranking 32nd in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per play last year, the Indianapolis Colts are one candidate to select an edge rusher at pick 36 or 37. The Cleveland Browns were third-worst and could be a fit for hometown boy Hubbard. The Green Bay Packers also have a need for an edge rusher as they ranked fifth-worst by this metric.
