Fantasy Football: The Top 5 Rookie Wide Receivers for 2018
5. Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos
Average Draft Position (ADP): Undrafted
Projected Fantasy Points: 48.88 (WR88)
According to Fantasy Football Calculator, Courtland Sutton is going undrafted in average 12-team drafts. Nonetheless, he carries a ton of potential as the Denver Broncos' second-round pick from April's draft.
With Sutton, a lot of the hype stems from his ridiculous physical profile. The 22-year-old stands 6'3" and weights in at 218 pounds, which, coupled with his workout metrics (including a 4.54 40-yard dash), draws comparisons to Alshon Jeffery, per PlayerProfiler.com.
In his four years at SMU, the big-bodied receiver put up monster numbers. He tallied at least nine scores in each of his last three years while turning in back-to-back seasons of 1,000-plus yards and 10-plus touchdowns in 2016 and 2017. However, it will be hard for him to produce those types of numbers in 2018 behind Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders in Denver.
Barring injury, Sutton is unlikely to find his way into starting lineups in fantasy this season. Beyond 2018 is where his value lies. At this moment in time, Sutton is the number-two receiver in rookie-only drafts (pick 1.09) and the overall WR44 (9.08) in dynasty formats.
For his rookie campaign, we have Sutton turning 54 targets into 30 catches, 386 yards and 1.8 touchdowns. His projected fantasy output is followed closely by Christian Kirk, who comes in as rookie WR6 at 46.32 fantasy points.
