Fantasy Football: One Wide Receiver to Target in Each Round of Your Draft

Kansas City's offense is going to be a fun one to watch this season because no one is really quite sure how things are going to shake out.

The obvious change in KC is Patrick Mahomes taking over for Alex Smith. But the Chiefs also added Sammy Watkins, making him the game's fifth-highest paid wideout in terms of average annual value. Watkins joins an offense that already boasted Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt, so this has the potential to be a high-octane unit -- we peg them to be the seventh-best passing offense -- if Mahomes delivers in his first season as a starter.

Of course, all the weaponry could cap Watkins' upside, and like I said from the jump, it's anyone's guess how targets will be dispersed in this passing game. But Watkins has two things going for him.

One, the Chiefs just made a huge financial commitment to him, and it stands to reason that they're going to make Watkins a key cog in the offense.

Two, Watkins is a proven red-zone producer, giving him a different skill set to that of Hill's. Amazingly, none of Hill's seven touchdowns last year came from inside the red zone as he made a living on big plays, seeing a mere four red-zone targets in 2017. On the flip side, seven of Watkins' eight touchdowns last year with the Rams came from inside the red zone.

Both Hill and Watkins could see a lot of volume in 2018, but given Hill's third-round cost and his unsustainable touchdown production, Watkins looks like the better way to get exposure to this offense. Per our models, we project Watkins to be this year's PPR WR25.
