7 FanDuel NFL Value Plays for Week 2
Alex Smith, QB, Washington
Price: $7,100
Even though Washington took a big lead against the Arizona Cardinals early in Week 1, getting into a run-heavy gameflow, Alex Smith was hugely efficient, and turned in a solid 19.6 FanDuel points.
We're not likely to see Smith continue to complete 70% of his passes like he did in that game, but he's also not likely to need to complete 70% to continue posting solid fantasy scores in the future. Week 1 saw him notch an average depth of target (aDOT) of only 3.2 yards. Now, Smith has been notorious for leaning on short passes over his career, but even by his standard that is a ridiculously low mark. His previous career-low was 5.9 yards in 2014, and that was the only time he finished below 6.5.
Efficiency should be no problem this week against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts looked like a juicy matchup for Andy Dalton in Week 1, thanks in part to their 32nd-ranked Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play in 2017, and that did indeed prove to be the case. Dalton completed 21 of his 28 pass attempts, racking up 243 yards and 2 touchdowns.
After a promising Week 1, this week's matchup leaves Smith in a spot to once again drop a solid fantasy total.
