James White, RB, New England Patriots

Price: $5,900

James White was on the field for 48% of the New England Patriots' offensive snaps in Week 1, sharing work with Rex Burkhead (49%) and Jeremy Hill (16%).

Hill tore his ACL in that game, ending his season, and Burkhead is in the concussion protocol, which caused him to miss Wednesday's practice. Sony Michel has yet to make his NFL debut due to a knee injury of his own, and after being limited at Wednesday's practice, there's little chance he would see a big workload even if he does debut this week.

That leaves James White and the recently signed Kenjon Barner -- who hasn't seen more than 28 carries in any of his 5 NFL seasons -- as the team's only healthy backs. We may actually see Barner get some work if Michel can't go in this one, but it's White who will offer the big fantasy value.

White was targeted on 25% of his Week 1 snaps, while rushing the ball on another 14%. As primarily a pass-catching back, he offers the most value in full point-per-reception (PPR) formats, but with FanDuel's 0.5 PPR scoring, he still led Patriots running backs with 13.6 fantasy points against the Houston Texans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars do not make for an easy matchup, and the Patriots' implied total sits at a middling 23.0. White is in line to be their top back, though, and the kind of opportunity he stands to see in the passing game makes him a tremendous value, bad matchup or not.

Another player that could become a top value depending on his teammates' health is Tevin Coleman ($5,900). Devonta Freeman missed Wednesday's practice with a knee injury that he suffered on opening night. Coleman averaged 17.0 FanDuel points on 19.5 carries per game in two contests without Freeman last year, and that kind of usage would make him the week's top value at running back if Freeman does sit.
