7 Deep Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 2
Theo Riddick, RB, Detroit Lions
Yahoo! Ownership: 24%
In Week 1, the Detroit Lions were a mess. They turned the ball over five times and failed to get the ground game going, finishing with just 39 rushing yards, thanks to the blowout nature of the 48-17 loss. Of the backfield trio of LeGarrette Blount, Theo Riddick, and Kerryon Johnson, Riddick stood out the most as he found decent success, posting a 0.11 Net Expected Points per rush. That was good enough to rank 19th out of the 61 backs with at least 4 carries.
His final stat line was not overwhelming -- 35 total yards -- but his 9 total touches and 7 targets is something that should catch the eye of those looking for a deep sleeper back this week.
The Lions are traveling to San Fran and are 6.0-point underdogs to the Niners, leaving Riddick the most likely beneficiary once again. He saw nearly 60% of the snaps in Week 1, due to the negative game script against the New York Jets, and would likely see the field over 50% again this week if the game flow goes south as expected. Add in Blount nursing knee and shoulder injuries and Riddick could be competing with just the rookie Johnson for touches on Sunday (although it's worth noting that Blount is practicing this week).
The game between the Niners and Lions is poised to be a shootout as well, something we like in fantasy, as Vegas has the tilt tied for the third-highest scoring game of the week (48.0 over/under).
