8 Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 5
Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars
At this point, it seems that nothing shy of a Pat Mahomes or Ryan Fitzpatrick-esque run will make the general public buy into Blake Bortles' fantasy football value.
In the last three seasons, Bortles has finished no worse than the QB13, and he has both a top-10 and top-5 finish in that stretch. But still, people slept on him this year. He's now topped 24 fantasy points twice in four 2018 starts, finishing as the QB4 and QB10 in Weeks 2 and 4. Still, he gets ignored.
In the past, the discrepancy between Bortles' real-world play and his fantasy football value drove people away from him. In 2018, that is not an excuse. Among the 34 passers with at least 50 drop backs on the season, Bortles ranks 10th in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back.
He's not likely to slow down this week, either, drawing a great matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Each of the Chiefs' games this season has hit at least 50 total points. Their opponents have put up no fewer than 23, and are averaging 28.75 per game. They rank bottom-five in numberFire's schedule-adjusted pass defense metric, and they're allowing top-five fantasy production to opposing quarterbacks.
Sure, Blake Bortles may not be matchup-proof, but he draws one of the best matchups possible this week and offers a ton of fantasy upside against KC.
