8 Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 6
Mike Davis, RB, Seattle Seahawks
In Week 4, Mike Davis got the start in the Seattle Seahawks' backfield with Chris Carson sidelined, and he made the most of it. Davis ran the ball 21 times while adding 4 receptions on as many targets, racking up 124 total yards with 2 touchdowns.
Carson was back in Week 5, however, which led to most owners dropping Davis back onto the waiver wire. It made sense. Davis had seen just three carries and two targets over the first three weeks -- surely Carson's return was going to make him worthless again.
That wasn't the case, though.
Carson did return to a lead role, pacing the Seattle backfield in carries (19) and percentage of snaps played (59%). But Davis was not far behind, with 12 carries (and 2 targets, to Carson's 1) while playing 42% of the offensive snaps.
Week 3 had seen Carson play 72% of snaps (and Davis log 12), so Davis' excellent Week 4 performance seems to have earned him a significantly expanded role.
It's not just raw production that has been impressive from Davis. There have been 46 backs to see at least 30 carries this season, and among that group, Davis ranks fourth in Rushing NEP per carry. Carson ranks a middling 20th, and while Rashaad Penny misses the cut-off by one carry, he would rank 38th in the group if he qualified.
The Seahawks have a respectable 25.75-point implied total, and as 3-point favorites, we could see a run-heavy approach while playing with a lead against Oakland. The Raiders also rank only 26th against the run by numberFire's metrics, and Davis should have no issue producing efficiently even if he doesn't see his role continue to expand. If he does take over even more of Carson's workload, Davis' upside is huge.
