Fantasy Football: 5 Bold Predictions for Week 10
The Jets and Bills Defenses Will Score More Points than their Offenses
What happens when a stoppable force meets a moveable object? I'm not quite sure, but we may find out this weekend when the Buffalo Bills take on the New York Jets.
The Bills offense has been historically bad this season. They've scored just 96 points this season while averaging only 4.0 yards per play. The Jets (5.1) haven't been much better with regards to yards per play, but they have managed to score 102 more points than the Bills so far this year. Both teams have interception rates in the top three in the league and sit at the bottom of the quarterback leaderboards in completion percentage.
This week the Jets will be forced to start Josh McCown while rookie Sam Darnold deals with a foot injury. McCown played well for the Jets last season, but has still averaged a high interception rate of 3.1% over his career. He hasn't had in-game experience with the Jets receivers this year, who also happen to be pretty banged up this year -- Quincy Enunwa has missed time with an ankle injury and Robby Anderson has struggled with one recently as well.
The Bills might get the inconsistent first-round pick Josh Allen back this week, though he hasn't exactly lit the field on fire. He's thrown five interceptions through his last five games and lost four fumbles in that time. If he can't go, poor Nathan Peterman and his 8.6% interception rate will have to start again. That would bode very poorly for the Bills offense in general.
On
the flip side of the ball, these teams' defenses have actually been
quite good. The Bills are allowing just 5.1 yards per play -- the
third-lowest rate in the league -- while the Jets aren't far behind with
5.3. It's been difficult to notice how well these defenses have played because their offenses just keep turning the ball over.
This week, these two turnover-prone offenses will more than meet their match against each other's solid defenses. Neither team's offense will be able to get much done, but it wouldn't shock me if there are more defensive touchdowns than offensive points scored in this one.
