5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 11
Lamar Jackson Ran It 27 Times for 117 yards
The Baltimore Ravens are among the NFL leaders in pass attempts. But they completely flipped the script on Sunday, for the first start of Lamar Jackson, and concentrated almost all of their efforts toward running the ball. The team had 57 rushing attempts, against just 19 passes.
The main beneficiaries of this scheme were rookie running back Gus Edwards, who amassed 115 yards on 17 carries, and Jackson. Jackson carried the ball 27 times for 117 yards. The 27 attempts are the most by a quarterback in NFL history. No Ravens quarterback has rushed for more yards in a single game in franchise history. It was also the second-most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback since 1970, behind the man currently backing up Jackson for the Ravens. Robert Griffin III had 138 with Washington back in 2012.
Sunday also marked the first time that a first-year running back and quarterback both rushed for 100 yards in the same game. By starting, Jackson ensured that all five quarterbacks taken in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft started at least one game this season. This is the first time that five first-round quarterbacks all started as rookies.
