Fantasy Football: 3 Players You Can Drop After Week 12
Golden Tate, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Yahoo Ownership: 94%
Things probably haven't worked out the way the Philadelphia Eagles imagined they would when they traded for Golden Tate back at the trade deadline. The Eagles surely envisioned the yards-after-catch-monster coming in and making an immediate impact. But that just hasn't happened.
Tate has been anything but productive since joining the Eagles. When he was with the Detroit Lions, he averaged 9.9 targets, 6.3 receptions and 73.9 yards per game. He was playing quite well. However, since joining the Eagles, those numbers have dropped to 6.7 targets, 3.7 receptions and 32.2 yards per game.
In the last two weeks he's seen eight targets in each game. Usually when a receiver has volume like that it would make them a buy-low target, but in Tate's case it's actually concerning -- he's produced just 78 total yards on those combined 16 targets. He's also struggled, as evident from numberFire's Reception Success Rate metric, which tracks how frequently a reception adds value to the receiver's team's expected points total. Since he joined the team, he's had the lowest Reception Success Rate among receivers on the team by a wide margin, with both Nelson Agholor and Jordan Matthews surpassing him by 15%.
In other words, Tate is simultaneously drawing targets and killing drives with his low Success Rate. This could help explain why the Eagles have struggled so much over the last three weeks and why Carson Wentz has played his worst two games of the season.
It's difficult to drop a player who is getting so much volume, but Golden Tate just isn't doing enough with that volume to warrant a place on your fantasy rosters.
