Antonio Gates is back!
In Week 15, the veteran Los Angeles Chargers' tight end played a season-high 42 snaps, the first time this season he played more than 40% of the offensive plays (57%). The extra playing time led to Gates racking up 4 catches for 54 yards and 9.4 PPR points. Those numbers were good enough for a TE8 finish in PPR leagues. While facing the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 seems like a daunting task, the matchup is actually one of the more favorable ones for the tight end position.
The Ravens are the top pass defense in the NFL, per our schedule adjusted metrics, but they have been vulnerable to tight ends. Baltimore allows over 13.5 PPR points per game to the position, ranking in the bottom-half of the league. Through 14 games, they have given up the eighth-most catches (74) and ninth-most yards (867) to the position. Of the 18 touchdown passes they have allowed, one-third of them (6) have landed in tight ends' hands.
With Keenan Allen a bit gimpy and a question mark for Saturday, Gates makes for a nice speculative/hail mary play if Allen does indeed sit out.
