Fantasy Football: One Potential Cut Candidate for Every AFC Team
Oakland Raiders - Jordy Nelson
Cap Savings: $3.56 million
Dead Money: $1.8 million
Despite a Week 3 game that saw Jordy Nelson got for 173 yards and a touchdown versus the Miami Dolphins, the 2018 season was not a banner year for the former Green Bay Packers' star. That game turned out to be his only 100-yard game of his debut season as a member of the Oakland Raiders, and it brought him one of his three touchdowns on the year.
The Raiders' offense was fairly awful in 2018, finishing 27th in Adjusted NEP per play (0.00) and 21st in Adjusted Passing NEP per play (0.07). Nelson was 33rd in Target NEP per target and 35th in Reception NEP per target out of the 75 wide receivers with at least 75 targets.
Only Jon Gruden knows what he plans to do with the Raiders' roster this offseason. But as attached to veterans as he has been, there is no real reason for the Raiders to absorb a $5.36 million cap hit to keep Nelson around in 2019. There are rumors that Nelson has been contemplating retirement, so it's looking like he won't be back in the Bay Area -- one way or another.
