San Francisco 49ers - Pierre Garcon

Cap Savings: $1.075 million

Dead Money: $7.2 million

There were more than a few raised eyebrows when the San Francisco 49ers signed Pierre Garcon to a five-year, $47.5-million contract prior to the 2017 season, especially with $17 million guaranteed at signing. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the Niners have not gotten what they paid for.

Garcon has missed 16 total games over the last two seasons, with eight absences each year. He amassed a mere 286 yards on 24 receptions in 2018 from 46 targets. This gives him a two-year total of 64 receptions, 786 yards and a single touchdown.

The 49ers have a team option on Garcon's 2019, 2020 and 2021 years, according to OverTheCap. Given the lack of proven veteran receiver depth on the team, it may make sense to keep Garcon around. But his lack of production -- along with his questionable availability -- makes his salary tough to swallow, even with San Fran holding a whopping $62 million in cap space. Making Garcon a post-June 1st cut would free up $5.875 million.
