NFL Betting: 5 Offensive Rookie of the Year Targets
N'Keal Harry, Wide Receiver, New England Patriots
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +1900
Of late, rookie wide receivers have not enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in the NFL, aside from a few notable successes mostly taken in the 2014 draft class.
The New England Patriots have not exactly churned out the first-year performers in recent seasons, either.
Since Bill Belichick became head coach in 2000, only one Patriots rookie wide receiver has cleared 500 yards (Aaron Dobson back in 2013), while only Deion Branch had more than 37 catches. These figures, plus the famed complexity of the Patriots' offense, don't exactly engender much confidence in N'Keal Harry's ability to bring home this award.
But it should not be denied that Harry appears to be in a great situation with the Patriots, after a prolific career with the Arizona State Sun Devils. Harry finished his collegiate career with 213 receptions, for 2,889 yards along with 22 touchdowns. His physicality makes him a player that the Patriots may look for in the red zone, especially now they have no Rob Gronkowski to dominate in this area. A few games with multiple touchdown grabs will make him a player whom the voters can't ignore.
That being said, the Patriots will not be handing out any jobs on their offense in 2019, nor any year soon for that matter. If Harry isn't able to grasp their playbook, he won't reap the high honor of becoming the new go-to guy for Tom Brady.
The fact that the Patriots may want to continue to lean on their ground game will likely mean fewer opportunities through the air -- especially for players who have yet to earn the full trust of Brady. A few Tweets between Brady and Harry do not a partnership make. Still, he may be worth a flutter at these odds while aligned with an efficient offense.
