7 Quarterbacks With Easy Early-Season Matchups
Geno Smith, New York Jets
Opponent | 2013 Defensive Rank | 2013 Pass Defense Rank | |
---|---|---|---|
Week 1 | Raiders | 28 | 29 |
Week 2 | Packers | 27 | 27 |
Week 3 | Bears | 26 | 12 |
Geno Smith isn't a fantastic season-long option, let's be clear. Among quarterbacks with a minimum of 225 passes last year, Smith was dead last in our Passing Net Expected Points rankings, and with Michael Vick backing him up, Smith may not be starting for long.
But if there's any chance for Geno to turn things around, however small that might be, the first three games of the season would be his chance, as the Jets schedule gets much tougher from there. In their first three weeks, the Jets face three of the worst defenses in the NFL in the Raiders, Packers and Bears. Both the Packers and Raiders were very bad against the pass a season ago, and the Bears weren't that much better. If there's a possibility for Geno to start showing something, he'd probably do in these first few games.
