5 Tight Ends to Target in Your Fantasy Football Draft
Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
ADP: 105 (9.06)
Falling victim to a "he's over the hill" narrative and an undue extrapolation of his decline in overall production between the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is being unjustly underrated in fantasy football drafts this year.
While he did suffer a 42-point drop-off in total fantasy points from 2013 (206.1) to 2014 (164.3), this dip in production was because of an overall lack of volume in the Cowboys passing game -- they finished the year with the third-lowest pass-to-run ratio last season -- rather than a decline in his ability.
As our Editor-In-Chief JJ Zachariason has noted, Witten finished as a top-10 tight end last year and in terms of efficiency had one of the best years of his career, recording a 0.82 Reception NEP per target that was just behind Gronkowski (0.86) and Kelce (0.83).
Finishing as top-10 tight end in each of the past five seasons -- including a number-one finish in 2010 -- based on his efficiency from last season there's no reason to believe that will end in 2015. And being drafted outside the top 100, it's clear that Witten provides the perfect mix of upside and value for fantasy football managers this year.
