DraftKings Daily Fantasy Football Helper for Week 5
Running Backs
High-Cost Option: Le'Veon Bell $8,500
Le'Veon Bell will likely be a staple choice as the top running back while Ben Roethlisberger is out. The recipient of a heavy workload over his first two weeks in action (26 touches in Week 3, 29 touches in Week 4), Bell has hit value each week this season. Facing an $800-price raise this week against the San Diego Chargers, Bell has the potential to keep the value coming.
The Chargers have given up the second most fantasy points to opposing running backs on the season, yielding on average 34.3 fantasy points to opposing backs per week. Bell could be in for a monster game if he continues to see nearly 50% of the team's touches.
While his ceiling may be lowered with Michael Vick under center opposed to Big Ben -- Bell had 7 receptions for 21 yards with Vick last week, opposed to his 7 receptions for 70 yards with Roethlisberger in Week 3 -- Bell will continue to be Pittsburgh's workhorse. Entering as Monday Night Football road underdogs, look for the Steelers to rely heavily on Bell if they want to keep the San Diego offense off the field and capitalize on an important AFC matchup.
Mid-Cost Option: Justin Forsett $5,800
It's odd that Justin Forsett is priced where he is following his 150-yard performance in Week 4. This is the cheapest he's been all season, he's coming off a terrific game, and he has a home game facing a Cleveland Browns defense that has allowed the second-most rushing yards on the season. I'll bite.
Forsett dominated the Browns last year in their Week 17 matchup in Baltimore, as he rushed for 119 yards while running at a 7.0 yards per carry clip. Forsett has yet to reach the end zone this year, but with an ailing Steve Smith out this week, they could call Forsett's number more frequently. Only Smith has seen more targets than Forsett, who could see a potential bump in the receiving department if the running game falters. After being involved with 26.6% of the offense's red zone plays last year (combined rushing attempts and receiving targets), Forsett has seen a slight decrease being involved on only 22.9% of the Ravens' red zone opportunities.
The Browns have given up the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. Favored by 6.5-points at home in this Week 5 matchup against their Divisional rival, Baltimore should provide Forsett plenty of opportunities to capitalize on such a cheap price tag.
Low-Cost Option: T.J. Yeldon $4,400
Through four weeks T.J. Yeldon has amassed the third-most carries in the league with 70 rushing attempts, trailing only Adrian Peterson (75) and Matt Forte (84). Coincidentally, Yeldon is a terrific volume play as he faces a Tampa Bay defense that has faced the second-most rushing attempts this season and allowed the third-most rushing yards. Yeldon has monopolized the Jacksonville rushing attack, owning 68.6% of his team's carries (third-most among all running backs) and 77.8% of his team's offensive snaps (third-most as well).
Yeldon has struggled to find the end zone, but that could change this week. Only five other teams have given up more scores on the ground than the Buccaneers. After a career-high 15.9 fantasy point game against the Colts in which he surpassed 100-yards for the first time in his career, Yeldon could repeat that same feat in Week 5 in Vegas' lowest projected scoring affair.
Tampa Bay's susceptible run defense projects for a run-heavy attack by the Jaguars. They should be able to capitalize on rookie Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers offense that has the second-most giveaways on the season (10). We have yet to see Yeldon hit his proverbial ceiling this season, but he very likely could in this week's matchup.
GPP Wildcard: Chris Thompson $3,300
Washington's Chris Thompson has seen his snaps on the rise over the past two weeks, seeing 38 in Week 3 and 33 snaps in Week 4. His touches have gone up from 4 total touches in the first two weeks to 18 in the last two weeks. Averaging over nine yards per touch, Thompson is lightning in a bottle for a Washington offense that has the second-most rushing attempts so far this season.
In what could be a very fast paced game -- the Redskins have run the second-most plays per game with Atlanta a half-step behind ranking fourth -- the Washington offense may need to rely on Thompson's change of pace even more in Week 5. The Falcons have given up the most rushing touchdowns on the season to date (7), and at $3,300, I'm comfortable chasing that touchdown production for a player seeing more snaps over the past two weeks (71) than both Alfred Morris (47) and Matt Jones (41).
