Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce's had a couple of relatively quiet games the past couple of weeks, but there's a good chance that changes this weekend. With the season-ending ACL tear of star running back Jamaal Charles, who accounted for 31% of the team's total offenisve yards through Week 5, the Chiefs are likely going to have to rely more on the pass for the remainder of the season.

Prior to Charles' injury, Kelce was averaging 6.8 targets per game, so an increase of even one or two targets per game could significantly increase his value. And this weekend, he gets to go up against the Vikings, who, while currently are ranked as the ninth best passing defense per our metrics, are also currently ranked as only the 17th best defense at defending opposing tight ends, per Football Outsiders. With the Vikings projected to win by 3.5 points, the Chiefs could be in a position where they need to play catch up and air it out.

I generally like to punt at tight end in my cash game lineups as it's such a volatile position and I would prefer the safety of rostering another stud wide receiver or running back, so I lean more toward recommending Kelce as a tournament option. That said, with Charles done for the season, and a reasonably favorable matchup and game script facing Kelce this weekend, I wouldn't blame anyone for putting him in their cash game lineups either.
