Week 6 NFL Advanced Analytics Superstars
Quarterback: Philip Rivers
Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers
43 for 65, 503 Yards, 2 Touchdowns
NEP: +21.80
Philip Rivers threw a career-high 503 yards this week but was unable to complete the late-game rally, as the Chargers fell 20-27 on the road to the Packers.
Orchestrating drive after drive by finding holes in Green Bay's secondary with short passes, Rivers completed 43 of his 65 drop backs while scoring a pair of touchdowns that culminated in a +21.80 NEP, leading all quarterbacks for the week.
Rivers heavily targeted Keenan Allen once again this week -- 14 receptions for 157 yards on 15 targets -- before a hip injury forced Allen out of the game. Antonio Gates was also once again featured in San Diego's passing attack, catching 9 of his 16 targets for 95 yards.
Rivers finished the day second in fantasy points, trailing only Matthew Stafford's late-game heroics on the heels of his four-touchdown performance. However, Rivers is having a tremendous year, as his 59.09 Passing NEP is the fifth-highest in the league.
The rest of this week's top quarterbacks were led by Stafford and his +19.52 Total NEP performance. Stafford hit the 400-yard threshold for the first time this season, and the Lions found a way to victory in overtime. Drew Brees, completing 30 of his 39 attempts, had an efficient Thursday night performance with the third best game by our metrics. Colin Kaepernick, Brian Hoyer, and Landry Jones rounded up a surprising finishing trio of quarterback performances from Week 6.
