Earlier this week I wrote that while Kamar Aiken is no Steve Smith by any stretch of the imagination, he becomes a viable option in the Ravens' passing attack with an increased workload due to Smith's injury along with his relatively decent efficiency in the receiving game.
And this was exactly the case on Sunday when the Ravens took on the Jaguars' 30th-ranked passing defense according to our metrics. With Joe Flacco having few other options to throw to, Flacco peppered Aiken for 14 targets, with the second-year wideout converting 7 of these into 73 yards.
The efficiency wasn't there for Aiken today as he operated as the team's number-one wideout -- his Reception NEP per target was at a sub-par 0.43 mark on the day. However, with Flacco and the coaching staff obviously trusting their new top target on the outside with a heavy workload, Aiken should have many more days like this, if not better, as he continues to build chemistry with his quarterback for the rest of this season.
