Running Backs

High-Cost Option: Doug Martin $6,200

Tampa Bay is favored by 3.5-points in this home matchup against the Saints, and if they can get out to a solid lead, we should see plenty of Doug Martin. If the Buccaneers are going to get close to their 27.3 implied points by Vegas, they'll need Martin to contribute on the ground. The Saints are giving up the third-most fantasy points to running backs on the season and have given up four-straight 100-yard games to opposing running backs. Martin has been on fire lately, averaging 134 yards over his last four games. The Saints are allowing the most red zone opportunities per game (4.4), which presents Martin a terrific opportunity not only to get yards on the ground but also to find his way into the end zone this week against a struggling New Orleans defensive unit.

Mid-Cost Option: LeSean McCoy $6,100

I know, I know, $100 between the high- and mid-cost options is a little cheating, but both players warrant usage in Week 14. Buffalo's LeSean McCoy gets to face his former team this week, but there's plenty of statistical reasons to choose McCoy for your lineups over relying on #NarrativeStreet. McCoy is coming off his sixth-straight 100-yard game, averaging nearly 22 touches per game over that time span. McCoy has seen 77.1% of the running back touches during those games but could be in for a high volume game against Philadelphia. The Eagles are allowing their opponents to run the most plays per game due to a combination of their no-huddle offense and their inefficiencies, which could lead to a ton of touches for McCoy. The Eagles are allowing, on average, 150-plus rushing yards per game over their last four contests, making McCoy a perfect high-floor/high-ceiling play this week.

Low-Cost Option: Shaun Draughn $4,800

His pricing is fairly cheap this week, but Shaun Draughn has a nice opportunity to exceed that value. The 49ers travel to face the Cleveland Browns this week, entering as two-point underdogs. Draughn has proven to be nearly matchup proof from a volume standpoint, seeing 80.4% of the team's backfield touches since Week 9 when he became the starter. Since then, Draughn leads all running backs in targets per game at 6.8 and has averaged 19.5 touches per game. The Browns are a running back's delight, giving up the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs, the second-most rushing yards, and the fifth-most rushing touchdowns as opposing offenses run on them 46.6% of the time -- the most in the league. Both defenses have proven to be rather inept in this matchup, and this game could have sneaky potential to rack up more points than the projected 41 total points Vegas has predicted for this game. If so, Draughn stands to be one of the biggest beneficiaries, given his high volume in both the running and passing game.

GPP Wildcard: Spencer Ware $4,500

I've mentioned it in this series before, but uncertainty in DFS presents opportunity for those willing to risk it. Four touchdowns over the past three games makes Spencer Ware a running back worthy of rostering in GPP's as a wildcard this week. Teammate Charcandrick West returning to the lineup is what presents this uncertainty, but Ware has established himself as the team's go-to back for when they're inside the 20-yard line. Inside the opponent's red zone, Ware (nine carries, four touchdowns) has out-touched West (six carries, zero touchdowns) substantially. If I'm gambling on a cheaper running back, I like the upside that Ware presents going against numberFire's third-worst rushing defense that has also given up the fourth-most rushing touchdowns on the year. Teams run on the Chargers 43.85% of the time -- sixth-highest in the league -- and Ware could get both touchdown and volume opportunity (albeit capped volume) to warrant GPP consideration.
