The 5 Worst 3rd-Down Quarterbacks of 2015
Nick Foles, St. Louis Rams
The L.A. Rams (still adjusting to that change) invested a lot of money into Nick Foles following his ultra-successful 2013 season in Philadelphia.
After completing just 56.4 percent of his passing attempts and finishing the season as the most inefficient quarterback on a per-play basis according to our metrics, it’s fair to debate the validity of the franchise’s decision.
Foles’ performance on 3rd-down this season was pretty horrendous. He completed an abysmal 45 percent of his throws. His -0.31 Passing NEP per play was second-worst in the NFL ahead of only the aforementioned Blaine Gabbert.
He was sacked just twice on third-down, fewest among all qualifying quarterbacks, but pretty clearly had a net negative effect on his team thanks to his ineptitude on 3rd-down throws.
