Kenbrell Thompkins has intrigued NFL general managers since he entered the league but not enough to spend a draft pick to select him or to keep him on the roster. The New England Patriots and Raiders were his first homes, but he spent the 2015 season on the New York Jets, where he accrued just 8.00 Reception NEP on 33 targets (0.24 Reception NEP per target). Thompkins has seen his per-target Reception NEP drop each year and has just a 46.67 percent Catch Rate. He’s always been a roster longshot, and he’s hardly done anything to lock a spot up for himself.

Consider the state of the team: Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker have locks on the starting spots. The third receiver role could go to a just-as-talented Devin Smith, Quincy Enunwa, or Titus Davis, or to similar projects like rookies Charone Peake and Robby Anderson.
